NTKino (NTKcinema)

Film is art, entertainment and a window to knowledge – film is the interface of contemporary culture.

The film club NTKino offers a venue and occasion for the enrichment of cultural awareness for all the library visitors as well as a broader public. NTKino undertakes unique cinematographic initiatives in the field of fiction, non-fiction, experimental and animated films. With this, it relates to the long tradition of the so-called Cinémathique that would have created alternative film offerings and participated in shaping a community across art realms.

Inside the modern building of the National Library of Technology, in the multipurpose Balling Hall, there is a monthly screening of films which have received awards at renowned festivals. These films treat subjects relating to architecture, visual arts, important historical periods or works of art that have had a major impact on artistic modes of expression. The creative policy for NTKino was designed in cooperation with the film distributing company Artcam which monitors outstanding filmmakers (Michael Haneke, Jean-Luc Godard, Kim Ki-duk, Lars von Trier, Claire Denis, among others). It also seeks out new talent (Václav Kadrnka, Pablo Larraín) and new topics (film and video art reflecting societal and audiovisual visionary concepts) over the long term.

According to current selection and possibilities, the film sessions are accompanied by an expert opinion introduction or a debate attended by the creators. Often, previews of the latest films of the company Artcam are also held.
