HOW DO I GET TO NTK?

You can find us at Technická 6 –  between Thákurova, Studentská, Technická Streets and Flemingá Square (view map).

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:

  • Metro A to Dejvická: Get off at the Dejvická stations and use the Šolínova/Vysoké školy exit.
  • Tram Stop: Lotyšská and Dejvická
  • Bus Stop: Dejvická

Drivers can park in underground parking lot directly under the library or use street parking; bike stands are available outside the library.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER?

  • Yes, if you want to check out books, use our computers/eResources, Wi-Fi, print/scan/copy, or rent individual study carrels. Please note if you are not from the Czech Republic, you may not be able to use eResources from home and might need to make a deposit to check out some materials.
    • Registration info for Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) community
  • No, if you just want to use books, journals, and other materials in the library and if you don’t need to rent a room or use Wi-Fi. You don’t need to register to browse the Czech technical standards or other items found in the Periodicals Reading Room.
  • If you don’t register, you can enter NTK with your Czech Technical University (CTU) or  Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) ID or use a day pass (print a pass using the ticket machine next to main library entrance).

Want to save time when you register?

  • Fill out the pre-registration form online
  • Complete registration within 30 days by bringing the necessary items and cash for fees to the Registration Desk on the ground floor.

Where and when can I register?

When the library is open, print a ticket to register at the ticket maching next to the main library entrance. Then watch the monitors for your ticket number and go to the registration desk.

I registered  last year, do I need to register again?

Yes, the registration procedure is the same. Save time by preregistering.

I NEED TO FIND/BORROW A BOOK OR JOURNAL

  • Use the library catalog to search for a book or journal
    • Tips for using the catalog
  • The catalog record for a item tells you what floor and shelf it’s on (this is the call number) and if someone else is borrowing it or if it’s in the library’s underground storage area.
  • If the item isn’t checked out, use the call number to find it on the shelf. You can use all open stacks materials in the library (including to make copies or scans) and check out books without red dots on their spines using the self-check machines located on
  • Floors 1-3.  If you need assistance, ask at the nearest service desk.
  • If someone else has borrowed the item or if you need to order it from underground storage, you can reserve/request it once you’ve logged into the catalog.
  • Items you request from storage through the catalog will be ready within an hour, and you can pick them up at the desk on Floor 2 (the library will wait 7 days for you to pick it up before the item is returned to storage).
  • Items can be renewed twice using your library account, by phone (232 002 535), by email, or in-person at a service desk.

HOW AND WHERE DO I RETURN BOOKS?

  • Most books can be borrowed for 28 days, with two renewals
  • Late return charges are typically 2 kč/business day
    • List of all NTK fees (in Czech)
  • You can pay late fees at the Cash Desk on the ground floor
  • If you don’t pay late fees, your borrowing privileges will be suspended
  • When the library’s open, you can return books using the two return machines on the ground floor (one is near the gallery, and the other one is near the Cash/Registration desk)
  • When the library’s not open, you can use the book return box at the NTK3 entrance. Your return will be noted in your user account the next business day.

HOW DO I FIND AN ARTICLE/eRESOURCES?

If you’re not from the Czech Republic, you probably will only be able to use eResources in the library only (remote access is not available for most international patrons).

HOW DO I RENT A TEAM ROOM?

  • Register
  • Not all international users can reserve a team room; it depends on your residence status
  • Info (in Czech); the reservation is not very user-friendly, so we recommend you visit a service desk to ask for assistance in renting a team room

OTHER SERVICES

  • Vending machines are found on Floors 3-6, and there’s a café on the ground floor. It’s ok to eat and drink in the library; please just clean up after yourself. 
  • Historical collection and current periodicals reading room are on Floor 3. You don’t have to register to browse items in the periodical reading room.
