Construction Project of the National Library of Technology

Thanks to its collection of more than one million volumes the National Library of Technology (NTK) became the richest source of technical literature in the Czech Republic. It is assumed that up to about 900,000 visitors come to it every year to find a place for studying, meeting others and making use of modern information sources and technologies.

Project History

• Sept 9^th, 2009: NTK starts running at full operation level

• December, 2008: Handing over the building

• December, 2007: Finishing the fabric

• October, 2006: Starting the construction work

• August, 2006: Signing the agreement on "Complex implementation framework for the construction of the National Library of Technology"

• July, 2006: Announcing the winner of the two-stage tender for the execution of the public contract called "Complex implementation framework for the construction of the National Library of Technology": Awarded to the companies Sekyra Group, SG Projekt Management and SG Public Private

• June, 2006: Under the 8^th decision of the building dep. of Prague 6 Municipality, the construction of NTK approved – building permit for NTK construction came into effect as of June 24^th, 2006

• February, 2006: On Jan 27^th, the Prague 6 Municipality granted the zoning and planning decision on placing NTK building in Prague 6-Dejvice. The decision came into effect on Feb 24^th, 2006 and thus the 1^st round of building procedure was complete under the building law in force

• July, 2004: Commission for assessment and evaluation of bids aiming at winning the public contract titled "Project documentation for construction of the National Library of Technology" advised the contractor to accept the bid submitted by the applicant Helika

• June, 2004: Commission for assessment and evaluation of bids aiming at winning the public contract titled "Expert adviser for preparation of construction of the National Library of Technology" advised the contractor to accept the bid submitted by the applicant Arch-Invest

• April, 2004: Two tenders advertised in Trade Bulletin– a tender for execution of the public contract "Project documentation for construction of the National Library of Technology" and a two-stage tender for execution of the public contract "Complex implementation framework for construction of the National Library of Technology"

• On Apr 7^th, 2004, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Physical Training approved the investment project "STK – Construction of a new building NTT".

• February, 2004: Updated "Construction schedule of new building of the National Library of Technology" was approved by the Czech Republic government in its Decree N° 169 from Feb 25^th, 2004

• January, 2001: Closure of Architectural competition for the National Library of Technology building with the winning design by the studio AK architekti.

• July, 2000: In its Decree N°699 from July 12^th, 2000 the CZ government approved the "Construction project of National Library of Technology as information infrastructure junction for research and development, education and public information services"
